Take Action

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented action. Each of us must step out of our comfort zone, if only by a toe at first. We believe in combining online and offline activism. Do whatever you can, whenever you can, and then do a little more. But pace yourself. This is going to be a long ride.

1. Protect the Mueller Investigation
Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have all introduced bipartisan legislation to limit Trump’s ability to fire Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, providing the investigation the protection it needs. After Trump’s firing of Jeff Sessions last week, and his appointment of a Trump apparatchik to take his place, we must demand that this legislation be brought to the floor of the Senate for a vote.

Sample Script: I’m calling Senator Feinstein/Harris from [zip code] to urge them to press their Republican colleagues to demand that the Special Counsel Integrity Act (S1741) which is intended to protect Robert Mueller, and which passed the Senate Judiciary committee over a year ago, be brought to the floor immediately for a vote.
2. Demand that Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker Recuse Himself
Donald Trump’s appointment of Matthew Whitaker, a Trump acolyte and vocal critic of the Russia investigation, to the position of acting Attorney General is clearly intended to interfere with the work of Robert Mueller. Whitaker’s lack of experience, his close connection to at least one person under investigation, and his hostility to Mueller’s work make him unfit for this position.

Sample Script: I’m calling Senator Feinstein/Harris and Rep. Carbajal from [zip code] to insist that they demand that Matthew Whitaker recuse himself from any action having to do with the Robert Mueller’s investigation of the Russian interference in our 2016 election. This man is unfit for the job, and should not be appointed or confirmed.
3. Block US-Saudi Arms Deals
Even after the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Trump administration is continuing to arm Saudi Arabia’s military. There is growing bipartisan support in the Senate to end the arms deals with Saudi Arabia. On Sunday the Pentagon halted refueling warplanes from Saudi Arabia, and they are pushing for restrictions to extricate the US from Yemen’s civil war.

Sample Script: I’m calling Senator Feinstein/Harris from [zip code] to urge her to demand that the US discontinue arms deals and all other military support to Saudi Arabia. The situation in Yemen is catastrophic. The Saudi regime must be held accountable for their crimes against humanity.
