Join us in Solvang Park for a Day Without a Woman sister rally. Wear red--some red--any red at all. Members of all genders and parties are welcome. Bring a sign that expresses positive support for all women. Negative signs that attack any individual or group will not be displayed. Obey all local laws and do not impede either pedestrian or vehicular traffic in any way. 

The date of the "Day Without A Woman" strike coinsides with International Women's Day. International Women's Day began in 1908, when thousands of women gathered in New York City to demand better working conditions, better pay, and the right to vote. The first official International Women's Day was observed three years later, in 1911. "A Day Without A Woman" is to recognize "the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system — while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity," it makes perfect sense that the strike coincides with International Women's Day.

There are several ways to participate in the strike:

Women take the day off work — whether you are paid or unpaid.
Refrain from shopping for the day — or if you must shop, choose small, women- and minority-owned businesses.
Wear red in solidarity with those participating in and supporting the strike.
Attend a local event.

The timing of our Rally in Red is such that you can attend other local events. Lompoc is to hold a rally on the corners of H and Ocean from Noon-2:00.
